CarFax or similar VIN look up

Post by Al323i »

Does the club have a 'blanket' VIN look up agreement for members? Not to be cheap, but if it's something that the club offers, I would like to take advantage of it for a Z3 I am looking to purchase.

Thanks,
Al

I don't know if there's a group thing that the club offers. Maybe it should?

Meanwhile, you might want to consider checking out Prepurchase recommendations for buying a Z3, and while you're at it, go check out Esmerelda's Z3 fixit page

What's the car like?

Jon,

Thanks for the advice; I will check out those sites.

The car is a '97 with the 2.8L 5 speed and 77k miles. The top and rear window are in OK shape and the original clutch feels good. Negotiated price with private owner, $8K. There are no maintenance records. :(

I wanted a '97 as it qualifies for collector insurance... 15 years old.

what's the VIN?

don't feel stuck with a 97 as I have had my 98 M3 insured as a collectors car for like 2-3 years now so your requirement of 15 years old may only be with whatever agency you are working with. I use Grundy for their agreed value MVP type insurance which comes out to @ $150 a year for 10k agreed value.

The VIN on this Z3 is: 4USCJ3327VLC07805

I have American Collectors Insurance on my e30 vert and called them about insuring the Z3. It took them a day or so to confirm that they would insure it as a collectable.
