Hi Bruce - unfortunately I posted pretty much everything I was told. What I didn't post, I forgot. 
Just on my own speculation, I would be quite surprised if they did not offer a manual on a 1er diesel (though per usual you would probably have to order it). IIRC, the 335d was auto-only because a manual that could cope with that engine's massive torque was deemed too expensive to be viable. That's a non-issue for the 1er diesels, all of which are already available worldwide with manuals.
