E53 Right Front axle shaft
Trying to remove the long shaft part of the axle. Have the front part separated but can't get the shaft to separate from the differential. Don't have BMW tool 31 5 110 handy even though the Bentley Manual & outside forum posts say it can come out with some well placed blows by a hammer and a pry bar. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Photo too large to upload.

Thanks, for the link to load the photo Bjerolimic!
After taking a break, I resumed the task and after about 4 more blows it came out!!
Had the same problem putting the new axle in. Changed to a heavier engineer's hammer and in two taps it went in!!
Thanks for your feedback. X5 is back on the road with no clunking and no vibration!
If anyone would like to work on his/her BMW while it's on a legitimate lift like the repair shops have, reach out to me. I'm retired Navy and have access to the Auto Hobby Shop aboard the Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, NJ.
