Hello All,
In my recent posts, I have been trying to fix a hard start and rough idle on my '87 E30. This morning, while unsuccessfully trying to drain the engine block coolant, I found a puddle of fluid around the base of the driver's side front strut. It doesn't appear to be brake fluid. (That unit and hose is pretty dry, and the level of the brake fluid at the resevoir appears to be normal.)

Does anyone have experience with this phenomenon?

Thanks,
Nik

Look upwards from fluid and find source. Use flashlight and mirror, if needed.

As I look up the strut, it's "damp" all the way up as far as I can see. There is an oily hydraulic fluid streak that runs all the way down the inside (engine side) of the strut housing to the bottom where the control arm (?) is connected. The fluid leaks off this arm, onto the inside of the wheel and down the tire to the ground. There is also a damp stain on the inside of the wheel well towards the driver's door.

The brake components appear to be dry, and the hose connections are also dry.
