O2 sensors

Post by mopar71rt »

I want to add an air/fuel gauage and need to know if my O2 sensor is wide or narrown band. The engine is from a 325is 1987 and put into a 325e 1984 body, I'm 99% sure the electronics are from the '87 and I would assume the O2 sensor was also.

If so, would this be a narrow band or wide band sensor?

thanks for the help

Narrow band, no question. If you want to add WB, you will need to add a WB controller as well. Most controllers have a NB output that you can send to the ECU.

Thanks for the info Bob. I've been doing a bit of reading on the narrow band sensors, they are not very good for tuning. I think I'm going to add a second seperate O2 wide band sensor just for tuning.

Agreed: definitely narrow band. This type sensor acts more like a rich-lean switch than a fuel-air ratio sensor. It does, however, provide cheap indication of lean running - very important on a track car.
