Love my 2006 550i 6spd Sport, but the alloy wheels are not suitable for our NE
pot-holed roads. In the past few years, I've repaired 3 of my 4, some twice.
Last straw - wheel cracked 200 miles from home on a business trip (thanks to
Catonville BMW in MD for locating a new replacement in one day, honoring our
discount, providing a loaner and not gouging).

I kept the cracked wheel and the service advisor mentioned metal recyclers
pay $30-40 for them. Has anyone extracted any residual value from an old
alloy?

Depends on aluminum scrap price, usually arround $0.90 a pound. So a 24lbs wheel should be around $20 value.

I got less than $20 per 17 inch wheel when I scrapped a few earlier this year. It was hardly worth paying someone to dismount the tires so I removed them with a sawzall and prybar.

I suppose that answers my Q on resale value of 5 16" from 2000
