Doug,
I installed the DICE iPod module in my wife's E46 convertible. Other than the install being quite cumbersome, it works well. In the E46 the DICE module is wired into the trunk harness where a 6 disc changer would have been. From there I had to run wires into the cabin to where I wanted the iPod hookup. We opted for the center console under the armrest. She has control of the iPod though the factory head unit and also the steering wheel controls. I must admit I did this about five years ago so I am sure the units are better now. Nonetheless, it still works fine and we've had no issues. You CAN connect an iPhone and play Pandora, etc. but it's not designed for it. Overall, the quality of the DICE unit was good and the install instructions were ok.

Hope this helps
Jeff

Doug are you looking at it for Bluetooth connectivity? or just playing MP3s, pandora, etc?

I have 2 DICE Mediabridges and a USA Spec Ipod/MP3 (DICE competitor) player hookup

Dice

The Dice system was installed on my E46M sometime before I bought it, only complaint, it doesn't charge my I-Phone or I-Pod while they are playing. R 8)

Thanks,

I installed a DICE on my X3. Relatively straight forward install through the CD changer hookup. I enjoyed being able to control my iPod through the steering wheel. Had a problem with the unit cutting out and DICE sent a new chip which was easy to change and solved the problem. Good product at a reasonable price.

Installed a DICE in my 2002 X5. Sound is pretty good and there is (some) control through the factory radio and steering wheel, but I was disappointed at how limited it was. Basically, you can toggle forward and back through a playlist or through your music library, but picking by artist or album is really cumbersome. Also, the unit occasionally freezes and I have to turn the radio off and on again or reconnect.

All that being said, it does work, and seems to offer more features than the (few) other choices around.

Doug,

I installed a Media Bridge in a Z3 MCoupe and the non-blue tooth version in my E38. The Media bridge, in the MCoupe, was buggy but now seems to be stable. SOme buttons require a double press but you get used to it. The unit in the 7 works just like the CD player. Mine charges the iPod. The only issue is sometimes the iPod doesn't wake up so you must manually turn it on. Intall will be specific to the car.

Doug, another alternative is GROM Audio. I have a Grom module in my E46M and it works great (and hooks up like the Dice). I can either connect through a plug or I can download music to a thumbdrive and plug it in as well (any USB drive will work). Works with the steering wheel controls as well. They have a new version as well that will allow you to connect with Bluetooth if you wanted to stream from an iPhone/Blackberry/Android, etc.
