Sorting the rear subframe

After the winter, the 16v went back to Guten Parts where we began to tackle the rear suspension. They soon found the problem: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/anwarius/190e%2016v%20Project/Subframe%20repair/subframecrack2.jpg The rear subframe had cracked! The cracks were causing the rear to lo...

Track test

After all the work was done, we took the car to my favorite track, Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant, for a workout last August. Here are a few pics from the car's track debut: http://www.driversmeeting.com/uploads_user/1000/142/2501.jpg http://www.driversmeeting.com/uploads_user/1000/142/2500.jpg http://ww...

AMG fender spacer kit and Brembo brakes

To make a little bit more room, we installed the AMG front fender spacer kit. It's a series of bolts and urethane spacers that flare the front fenders out to gain some extra extra clearance. They were needed to fit optional AMG alloys. Here's the front part of the kit, where the leading edge of the ...

New wheels and initial suspension work

When we got the car, it already had the SLS system disabled and the OEM stocks and springs had just been replaced with some fresh H&R Sport springs and Bilstein Sport dampers. We'd keep them for now. An eBay search lead us to some Eibach swaybars. Here's a comparison between the OEM rear sway and th...

SLS and a/c delete

One of the first jobs we tackled was to strip some of the useless crap out of the car. First off, the a/c system had to go: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/anwarius/190e%2016v%20Project/Removalofairconditioningsystem.jpg Then we tackled the "SLS" system (self-leveling suspension). That involve...

The car

After searching for over 1 year, I finally found a clean California car with zero rust, no accident damage, a strong engine (180psi across all 4 cylinders), and the coveted Getrag close-ratio Euro gearbox with dog-leg 1st. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/anwarius/190e%2016v%20Project/Enginebay...

My Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 "Cosworth" build

Hi, guys. Just wanted to start a thread to detail the build of my 1987 190E 2.3-16 project car. For those who don't know, this is the one with the twin-cam 2.3L engine with a head designed and built by Cosworth Engineering. These were true homologation specials built for Group A racing. They're most...

This is an old thread, but it is interesting to see that Watkins Glen is on the top of many e30 drivers. It gets boring after a while in a stock e30. The Glen was definitely a bit more challenging when I was running a 400+ hp Evo VIII with rear toe-out. Let's just say what works for a tight and twi...

Don't overlook the amazing tracks in southeastern Canada. Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant is world class in all respects. It's still my favorite circuit overall. Calabogie is almost as nice as Tremblant. Mosport is very fast and simply thrilling: it's what LRP wants to be when it grows up. Among the track...

I can recommend Guten Parts + Service in Maplewood. Not too far from you. They're generally open on weekends (even Sundays) and can often squeeze you in if you call ahead of time.

Hi, Dan.

Sorry you're forced to sell your E28. It's a great car.

Re: Used BFG R1s FS

I have a used set of P245/40ZR -17 BFGoodrich g-Force R1s for sale. These were run on a Spec E36 BMW CCA racer and have accumulated 8 heat cycles. Well taken care of. Still plenty of life left in them - great for HPDE. Asking $350 + shipping or will deliver to the Glen for free 9/25. Located in nor...

Levent and the guys from GutenParts in Maplewood have been building an E30 for HPDE rentals. I don't think it's ready yet, but maybe you can check with him?
