OBD Scanner
I am attempting to diagnose issues with my 2001 BMW 740iL. I could not reset the oil change dash indicator. I took it to my mechanic who hooked up his scanner to the OBD-II port and he could not get a valid connection. The connection failed. I had an alternator failure and it was replaced along with...

Triangle reflector
I am looking to replace my missing triangle reflector from the trunk toolkit tray. The dealer dosn't stock the original that was made in Germany and supplied with the vehicle and fits in the tool tray in the trunk. They have an alternate that meets DOT specs but is larger than the original and does ...

I couldn't find it in the manual. The post on the E38 forum suggests once a year or 15,000 miles. The link is below.

Plus One Tire Sizes
Anyone have any experience with changing to plus one tire sizes? I'm wondering about fit issues with rubbing and fender/chassis clearance at the full right or left with the front set. :? My fronts call for P235/50ZR18 and the plus size is P255/45ZR18. The rears call for P255/45ZR18 and the plus one ...

Any suggestions for good/cheap tire Installers
I typically go to CostCo. If they don't have my size they'll order them.

I found two fuses, one under the hood and one in the trunk and both of them look OK. Hmmmm.

Fault codes
I had done an oil change and tried to reset the dash gauge per the instructions on the E38 forum. It didn't work. Could this be related to a fault code? I stopped by my shop to put the scanner on the OBD connector to reset the oil change monitor on the dash and they could not get a connection. The s...

Synthetic Oil & Oil change
Did the oil change (8 qts Castrol 5w-30 full synthetic per BMW) and replaced the oil filter, "O" ring, copper washer, andoil filter canister bushings.
I haven't yet figured out how to reset the dash display. I tried jumping pins 7 and 19 as per the instructions on the e38 site but it didn't reset.

Pixel display repairs at VDOrepair.com
Has anyone used their services to repair the faulty pixel display? Is it worthwhile and how long would it be expected to last? They offer a 1 or 3 year warranty on the fix.

Navigation upgrades
I'll need to visit the dealer to see what the split screen nav system looks like to determine whether I want to move to it. Per the 9/06 BMW Service release they indicated the latest Nav software versions below... "With the introduction of Navigation system operating software V28, there are currentl...

Membership Benefits?
Apparantly in order to bet discounts on parts, I need to provide a membership card and number at the time of purchase, or so I am told by Morristown BMW. I guess I joined the forum but never joined NJBMWCCA. Is that correct and if so, how do I join NJBMWCCA? Where may I find info about membership be...

Success
I picked up the new bushings, installed them, used the channel locks to hold the housing and the oil filter cap is a 36mm socket. Worked well. One issue remains, I tried to reset the dash oil change readouts by jumping pins 7 and 19 per the oil change instructions on the E38 forum, but it didn't res...

Oil Filter canister bushings
When attempting to do an oil change last night, I noticed that one of the rubber bushings holding on the oil filter canister was broken. I broke the other one trying to get the oil filter canister top removed to change the filter. Does anyone know if the bushings can be replaced or if I need to repl...
